Frequently asked questions
- 01Yes. All courses are part time and designed to fit around work and family life. Most students balance training alongside employment and other responsibilities.
- 02Many students start training in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Career changers form a large proportion of counselling students. What matters most is readiness, commitment and willingness to learn.
- 03No. Counselling training in the UK does not start at university. Most people begin with a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and progress gradually from there.
- 04Most students take around four years to progress from Level 2 through to the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. This gradual pace helps ensure safe and ethical practice.
- 05No. Each level is a step in the journey. Level 2 helps you explore counselling safely before deciding whether to continue to Level 3 and Level 4.
- 06Level 2 introduces counselling skills and self-awareness. Level 3 develops theory and readiness for professional training. Level 4 is the professional qualification required to practise as a counsellor.
- 07Counselling training involves written work, but it is not a university degree. Students are supported throughout and many return to study after long breaks from education.
- 08You are never required to share anything you do not wish to share. Training encourages reflection and self-awareness, but clear boundaries and safety are central to our teaching.
- 09Most students spend around two to three hours per week on reading, reflection and assignments outside of class.
- 10Counselling is a serious profession. The interview helps ensure the course is the right fit and gives you a chance to ask questions before committing.
- 11All Kent Counselling Training courses are approved by CPCAB, the UK’s leading awarding body for counselling training. The Level 4 Diploma is also BACP approved.
- 12We reply by email, answer any questions and offer the option of a phone call. If appropriate, you may be invited to interview. There is no pressure to apply.
- 13Yes. Many students speak to a tutor before applying. We are always happy to answer questions and help you decide whether training feels right.
